The discovery of a motorbike used by the three Iranian suspects prior to the Valentine’s Day Bangkok bomb blasts has investigators believing that the attacks could have been used to mount the attacks.
The news comes as police reveal that a motorcycle had been found on Sukhumvit Soi 71 since last Tuesday when the three blasts occurred throughout the area.
Authorities were alerted to the presence of a motorbike that had been left unattended out the front of an electrical appliances repair shop for an unusually long time.
National deputy police chief, Gen Pansiri Prapawat said that the motorcycle had been purchased from a Khlong Tan shop by one of the three suspects.
Reports claim that the Honda Wave had been purchased for 26,400 baht by Masoud Sedaghatzadeh, 31 prior to his arrest in the Malaysian capital of Kuala Lumpur after fleeing Thailand.
Neighbours say that the Iranians had used the motorcycle for transportation, but the discovery of a sticker with the word “SEJEAL” under the seat has prompted authorities to look into whether the scooter was going to be used to launch the attacks.
The link comes from a passage in the Koran when a miracle took place after birds dropped “sejeal” stones at an army who were attempting to kill the prophet Muhammed. Palestinian fighters have referred to some of their rockets as “sejeal stones” when attacking Israel.
The bombers were alleged to have been targeting Israeli diplomats based in the Thai capital.
Four arrest warrants have been issued, with two of the Iranians, Saeid Moradi, 28 and Mohammad Khazaei, 42, currently in Thai custody. Mr. Moradi is currently receiving treatment after being injured by one of the explosions, while Mr. Khazei was arrested attempting to flee the country via Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport.
Mr. Sadaghatzadeh is currently in the custody of Malaysian authorities, while a fourth female suspect ,Ms. Leila Rohani, is believed to have returned to Iran.
Police have also sought an arrest warrant for a fifth suspect in relation to the bomb blasts. Mr. Nikkhahfard Javad was seen on security footage near the house on Sukhumvit Soi 71 where the explosions took place.
