About Patong Beach

Situated about 40 km from Phuket International Airport, Patong Beach is one of the most popular tourist hotspots of Asia. The area is basically a circuit, which stretches approximately three kilometres, with streets lined with clothing shops, cafes, bars, and on the other side there’s the beach.

Patong Beach by day is a great place to unwind and watch the world go by.

By day, Patong Beach is a family friendly haven that has fun and interesting things to cater for all ages.  Restaurants are world class, with a wide range of food available, including western favourites, authentic Thai dishes, Indian, and almost anything imaginable.

However, when the sun sets and the moon lights up the clear sky, Patong Beach transforms into a hedonistic paradise, living up to its reputation that is famous amongst the world’s party scene.  The main strip centres around Bangla Road and Beach Road.

Like many tourist melting pots around Thailand, Patong Beach has a thriving sex industry, including male, female and khatoey (transgendered).  Massage parlours, both erotic and therapeutic are commonplace, while a great place to get a top notch massage is right on the beach.

Therapeutic massage can be found in many places throughout Patong, including the beach.

 Patong Beach Accommodation

Accommodation in Patong Beach is higher than in Phuket Township, but like most regions in Thailand, there is always something to suit all budgets. Travellers can find typical Thai guesthouse accommodation around the backstreets of Patong, within a short walking distance to the beach and most of the area’s nightlife for around 500 baht up.

For as little as 500 baht per night, you can't go wrong at a Thai guesthouse in a Soi!

Other types of accommodation throughout the Patong region include hotels, resorts and also self-catered apartments are an ideal option for the independant traveller.

At the other end of the spectrum is the five-star Patong Resort Hotel, along with many other luxury four-and-five star resorts around Patong Beach.

The most significant points in Patong Beach include Beach Road (Thanon Thawiwong), Thanon Rat-U-Thit 200 Pi, which runs inland, parallel to the beach, and the renowned party street Soi Bangla. About 500 metres inland from the beach is Nanai Road, which is home to a number of hotels and cheap guesthouses. Situated between Rat-U-Thit and Nanai Road is the newly-opened bypass, which runs behind the Jungceylon Shopping Centre.
