Airlines come to the rescue for stranded Air Australia passengers

Aussie national carrier Qantas and its subsidiary low-cost brand Jetstar have come to the rescue of travellers left stranded due to the collapse of Brisbane-based airline Air Australia.

Aussie airlines Jetstar and Qantas have come to the aid of stranded passengers in Phuket.

The airline’s management team handed over the running of the company to administrators late last night, resulting in the indefinite cancellation of all flights.

For Passengers who have already commenced travel:

Qantas

Earlier today, Qantas said that it would carry Air Australia passengers with a valid ticket dated on or before February 17.

Travellers who have already commenced their journey would be carried by Qantas without charge on flights between Bangkok and Melbourne/Brisbane via Sydney. However,  passengers would need to foot the bill for travel between Phuket and Bangkok.

Jetstar

Jetstar is also assisting passengers stranded following Air Australia being placed into administration.

Passengers who have already commenced their journey with Air Australia will be able to purchase a Jetstar ticket for the same price as their Air Australia fare until 29 February, 2012, regardless of the return date.

Air Australia passengers need to show their Air Australia itinerary for travel at a Jetstar Service Desk at their point of departure airport. Where possible and subject to availability, Jetstar will seek to accommodate affected passengers on the next available flight to their destination.

VC 240 – Melbourne to Phuket

After trying to locate a contact number in Thailand, it appears that Air Australia utilize minimal international staff for their operations.  This is the case for many low-cost carriers that fly into a destination, only to drop off a load of passengers, clean the plane, re-stock the drinks cart, before returning to their destination of origin.

For legal reasons, Thai Travel News will not speculate on any potential refund issued by Air Australia, however we can offer guidance for travellers seeking a quick return to Australia.
